make your own nursing cover

so as i was researching on what kind of nursing cover to get,
i realized that i could easily make one. and guess what? i did and you can too.
understand that i'm no seamstress but with a little bit of creativity i succeeded!

what you will need:
your choice of one pretty and soft rectangle pillow case: mine was 24"x 30"
your choice of one soft durable ribbon: mine was 2"x 18" you can cut it longer if you want your cover to fall lower
your choice of one velcro strip: mine was 0.75"x 1.75"
your choice of thread

instructions:
prep: wash and iron your pillow case and ribbon

sew sides: close the open side of your pillow case by sewing as close to the edge as you can. sew all four sides one inch away from the edge to hold the fabric. i sewed an extra line for fun as shown in picture.

sew ribbon: hold up your pillow case length-wise and measure 10" away from both edges and mark. (this is where the middle of your ribbon and middle of your velcro will go) pick one mark to work with and make a 1"-wide opening both to the left and right of the mark with a seam ripper. tuck in about 1/2" of one end of your ribbon making sure the mark lines up in the middle of your ribbon and sew along as close to the edge catching the ribbon. reinforce by sewing another line just below it. tug on your strap to test it out. i'm sure your baby will be doing the same :)

sew velcro: place one side of the velcro on your fabric lining the middle to the mark and pin it secure just below the edge of your fabric. start sewing just inside all four sides of the velcro. be sure to take out the pin when you start sewing. now place the other side of the velcro on the edge of your ribbon. be sure the ribbon is not twisted before you sew on the velcro! to create a smoother end and prevent ribbon from fraying, i tucked a little bit of the ribbon edge down and pinned the velcro on. start sewing just inside all four sides of the velcro. test out your velcro.

now wear your finished nursing cover proudly!
